BAT STATION (bat research and cooperation in Europe)

We are a working group of experts doing interest based things (IBT), among those studying bats (Chiroptera) and giving advice in bat-related issues. Our working area is Europe, where over 40 bat species are known to live today, all of which are considered protected animals in this subcontinent.

We know, and have known for long time, that true protection of bats in their habitats is only possible on the basis of true knowledge on bat species and their requirements. That is why we keep learning to be able to give high quality expert advice.

As scientists doing interest based research (IBR), we are not a part of the huge bureaucratic system ruling human societies today. Therefore we do not waste our time, being able to concentrate on important issues whatever we do.

We mostly carry out bat research in northern and central parts of Europe, the bat fauna of which is familiar to us. Thus, we keep ourselves on the right track.

Based on bat research, continuously carried out since 1975, we consider ourselves the experts of European bats and their habitats, and as such we are among not many groups truly representing the rights of bats in their home areas where they live and should be allowed to continue living.

Our expert advice is based on deep knowledge of European bat species and their requirements. So, we are happy to give this advice to those interested.

Our home organizations are the following two:

-  Sicista Development Centre (since 1998)
Loodusekoda MTÜ (since 2023)

During the years we have been in contact with various other organizations, some of which have been our partners.
