IDENTIFICATION OF BAT CALLS

Bat studies require correct identification of bat species present. We know that in certain studies this task is not completed, making the results of those studies vague.

But, based on vague results it is impossible to efficiently protect bats.

Therefore, especially in this topic we offer our expertise and contribution to those interested.

Remember, that we are representing the rights of bats. Therefore we cannot accept vague results in studies connected with bat conservation.

To identify bat species from their ultrasound calls, please record their sounds in wav-files. Those files will be analyzed by our experts, and bat species found there announced according to a mutual agreement.

The identification of bat species on the basis of their sounds requires special knowledge gathered in geographical context. Thus, we as bat experts working mainly in the boreal zone of Europe can give our contribution mainly in this part of the world. Most bat calls we can identify to species level, if they originate from northern countries. But we have been also successful in identifying bats from sound recordings made in southern countries like Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain.

In 2023 we started to identify the sibling species of whiskered bats (Myotis mystacinus s.l.), using their ultrasound calls. The first two studies where we were able to do this are shown right below.

[the first time whiskered bats were identified in Finland, using their ultrasound calls]
